What was expected is that Password Safe would default to opening the database in read only mode or give the user an alert/warning and the option to open in r/w or r/o since a lock file for the database already exist, which it would do if multiple instances of Password Safe operated on the same database on the same computer. So what can happen is that two computer can have their local sync copy of the database open in R/W mode, which I think could result in an inconsistent or corrupt database after the sync service does its thing with the database files if two people are for example sharing the same database. The problem I've seen is that Password Safe does not appear to recognize the lock file (plk) on another computer after the lock file (and database psafe3 file) has sync and appears in the Dropbox folder of said computer (I'm assuming the first computer created a database or opened one in r/w mode in the Dropbox folder and still has it open). I have in the past attempted to do what you are doing using different Windows computers. I've attached the logs from a stack trace using 'strace -ff -tt -p -o strace-pwsafe.log'. I copied the Linux created plk file out, closed pwsafe, copied the plk file back in, opened pwsafe and saw the message as it should be: I deleted the plk file, and now it opens correctly every time. There was no indication in the warning as to what the issue was, but I noticed the plk file, and some ibak files in the same directory. When I did a cat of the file and I saw my Windows computer name.

When I opened the psafe3 from Linux, pwsafe didn't know how to display the contents of the plk file created in Windows correctly/well, but did the best it could. I modified others to R/W and experienced the same issue: Password Safe Linux v1.06 opens the file as R-O.
